Hinano Cafe is a true Venice institution where the spirit of the beachside community comes alive in every bite and every beat. Nestled just steps from the sand at 15 Washington Blvd, this bar & grill, cafe, and live music venue is a vibrant crossroads for locals and visitors seeking honest, satisfying food and a laid-back, no-frills atmosphere.
At its core, Hinano Cafe excels as a classic hamburger restaurant with a menu that champions comfort and flavor. Their world-famous hamburger—juicy, perfectly seasoned, and layered with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, and a harmonious blend of mayo, mustard, and relish—is served on a bakery-fresh sesame seed egg bun that elevates every mouthful. For those with a heartier appetite, the double hamburger delivers double the satisfaction without compromising the quality. Beyond the traditional, the turkey and veggie burgers offer flavorful, wholesome alternatives that cater to all tastes. Breakfast lovers are well-served here too, with delights like the breakfast burrito—a spicy, cheesy, perfectly cooked egg and potato combo—and a breakfast sandwich stacked with melted cheese and fresh veggies on toasted sourdough or wheat.
The beverage menu stands out for its enticing range of beers and cocktails. Whether you're savoring a crisp Dos XX Lager from a pitcher, a rich Guinness Imperial Pint, or the refreshing notes of a Michelada, the drink selections complement the food beautifully. Morning visitors appreciate the robust hot coffee paired with fresh-squeezed My Sons Orange Juice. Meanwhile, classics like the Bloody Mary and cider round out a lineup that’s as varied as it is satisfying.
Hinano isn't just about food and drinks—it’s also about community. Step inside and you’re greeted by the authentic dive bar vibe that so many patrons adore. As reviewer Paul Mark Morris puts it, “This is old school Venice through and through,” complete with surfboards hanging from the ceiling, a jukebox spinning timeless tunes, and pool tables tucked in the back. The floor’s sawdust and free popcorn create a gritty, welcoming energy that feels as genuine as it is comfortable.
Customers consistently praise the welcoming, friendly staff and the honest value for money in a notoriously pricey area. Will Monk highlights how it’s “very reasonable food prices for the area,” while Zyquintis “Q” Little raves about the unbeatable burger and drink combinations paired with a vibrant, lively atmosphere. Whether you’re there to catch a ball game, enjoy a laid-back brunch, or simply soak up the local energy, it’s the people as much as the menu that make Hinano Cafe a hidden gem of Venice.
In all, Hinano Cafe serves up more than just meals—it offers a genuine Venice experience. It’s a place where uncompromising flavors meet an unmistakable local vibe, where every bite and every moment feels rooted in the soulful, beachside heartbeat of the community.
Great dive bar. Right off the beach. Very reasonable food prices for the area.
Hinano Cafe is a Venice classic just steps from the beach and it feels like a place that hasn’t tried to reinvent itself, which is part of the appeal. This is old-school Venice through and through. Surfboards overhead, a jukebox in the corner, pool tables, free popcorn, and yes, sawdust on the floor. The atmosphere is fine, but not special. It’s more gritty than charming, and while that works for many people, it’s not a place you come for ambiance alone. That said, the food delivers. The cheeseburger lives up to its reputation: simple, juicy, well seasoned, and exactly what you want in this setting. Breakfast and sandwiches are solid as well, and prices feel fair for the location. Nothing is trying too hard here, and that’s a good thing. Service was genuinely good. Friendly, efficient, and relaxed without being sloppy. Even when it’s busy, the staff keeps things moving and makes you feel welcome, which is why so many locals keep coming back. Hinano is the kind of place you stop into after the beach, grab a beer, and settle in without expectations of polish. It falls just short of five stars because the atmosphere is more functional than great, but the food, service, and authenticity make it an easy four-star spot and a true Venice institution.
Hinano Cafe has the best burgers in town! With a cold Happy Dad Seltzer best combo! We love the staff and energy here is undeniable! Thank you!
Hidden Venice gem First impressions— it’s a DIVE, and in all the best ways! TV’s are always on, pool tables in the back, walk up bar. decent menu, good beer selection, and the most important thing, locals! We bumped in to a group glued to the ball game who had clearly been there for hours, and were quickly flanked by a 30 year veteran of the bar who shared its Hollywood secrets. Talk about a true time portal. Definitely recommend this corner bar for your next beach beer! Cheers Xx, H
Great brunch spot, friendly staff. Food was fresh, hot, tasty. Price was fair, would have gotten a drink if it was later. Location is convenient right next to the beach. Burrito was on point, spicy and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Peppers were legit, loved the variety.
This is my second home. It’s my first stop when I land back in LA from work trips and it’s my last stop before heading to the airport. I go here several times a month, if not week, when I am in town. Best food, and not just the famous cheeseburgers. Great staff. Great music. And you can tell that Mark, the owner, cares about the bar, his team, his customers, and being a part of Venice history.
This was a great spot to stop after a long bike ride for a beer and some burgers. The staff were all really nice, from the bouncer to the bartenders to the server. They treated us like we were a part of the neighborhood. They have a great outdoor patio area where we really enjoyed people watching and soaking up some sun. We had a turkey burger and regular cheese burger, very reasonably priced which we appreciated. I liked that the burgers came with all the accoutrements in abundance, and it came with a bag of chips and banana peppers on the side. The burgers were reminiscent of fast food because of the sesame seed buns and thin style patties. Were these the best burgers I’ve ever had? No, but they were perfectly satisfying for the moment, and the ambience and service made up for it.
